We sat down as a family yesterday to talk over our family goals and personal goals. This is the first time we have ever done this together and it was mainly because one of the boys asked me what "revolutions" were. I wrote all of our thoughts down in my planner and now typing this, realize that I am going really public so here goes….
{Family}
Have one family date each month
Help another family once a month {meals, visits, just do something nice}
Continue to make our offering and give more when we can
Teach Hampton to say the blessing
{Misty and Lee}
lose weight through exercise and healthy food
read at least one book a month
spend time in a daily devotional
{just me}
blog at least once a week
keep cleaning schedule
Claim a verse for the year and LIVE BY IT
{big boys}
play DS only once a week
read at least one chapter book a month
improve at baseball
give offering each month
and my favorite "drink more milk"
{hampton with our help}
sleep in my own bed all night
use the potty
We've done so well thus far! BUT IT'S ONLY JANUARY 2nd.
We have all exercised today, although mine was not pretty.
I am blogging.
We've done our devotionals.
Now here's were the story takes a turn. A good one, so hang on.
For months {MONTHS} I have looked at the clock and the time has been 12:34. At first I thought, "that's neat" but after about the tenth time I felt like someone was resetting the clocks in our house just to mess with me. Last night it happened again….12:34 AM {we have been keeping super late nights this Christmas break}.
As I lie in bed thinking on this clock coincidence, it hit me. Maybe I should use these numbers to find my verse.
So this morning I read my devotional, went to the bank and the gym and went about my day until just now when I sat down to find my verse.
ROMANS. Something told me to go to Romans 12: 3-4. So I did...
3 I’m speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that God has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living then, as every one of you does, in pure grace, it’s important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to God. No, God brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him.4 In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. {The Message}
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function {NIV}
I live in pure grace. I am bring no goodness to God...HE brings it all to me.
Goodness. I scrambled back over to my post from yesterday and there was that word.
Goodness.
I wrote at the beginning, "I have lived long enough to know that it's ok to look back with fondness as long as I keep my eyes fixed on the goodness that will inevitably find me again. These pictures reflect the goodness that 2013 brought to my life. " And at the end, "So here's to family and friends and birthdays and goodness."
2013 did not bring goodness to me. God did.
God,
It's your breath in my lungs. Use me for your goodness.
God,
It's your breath in my lungs. Use me for your goodness.
Do you have verse this year? A word? I'd love for you to comment and share
